About this tool

What it does

Practice tools and recognition workflows both benefit from flexible speed and pitch. Slow a dense passage to learn it, or shift pitch to match another instrument’s tuning — without opening a full DAW. This tool changes playback rate and pitch in the browser. Speed and pitch can be adjusted together; pitch is expressed in semitones so musical intervals stay easy to reason about. Processing stays on your device. Use it to prepare a sample, rehearse a part, or explore how a motif feels in another key.

Change playback speed for practice and review

Changing audio speed can make a fast guitar lick, vocal phrase, or drum fill easier to study. A pitch adjustment can help explore a passage in another register or compare it with an instrument. The controls are useful for practice, rough analysis, and quick listening experiments.

Important: this lightweight version uses playback-rate resampling. Speed and semitone shift affect the same playback-rate operation, so changing pitch also changes duration; it is not independent, formant-preserving pitch correction. For the most reliable result, preview the processed WAV and keep the original for comparison.

Use speed and pitch for practice or quick comparisons

A slower playback rate can make a fast passage easier to learn, while a faster rate can help review long recordings efficiently. Pitch changes are useful for trying a phrase in another register or matching a reference tuning. Small adjustments are usually easier to evaluate than extreme shifts, which can make artifacts more noticeable.

This tool uses rate-based resampling, so speed and pitch are linked rather than independently time-stretched. The exported WAV reflects the selected transformation and may have a different duration from the source. Keep the original available when comparing versions or continuing work in another editor.

Workflow

How to use it

01

Open an audio file

Load the passage you want to slow down, speed up, or transpose.

02

Set speed

Values below 1.0× stretch time; values above 1.0× compress it. Small moves are easier to listen to.

03

Set pitch in semitones

Positive values raise pitch; negative values lower it. Twelve semitones equal one octave.

04

Apply and export

Render the transformed buffer, preview the result, and download if you need the file elsewhere.

Tip: Apply moderate changes first and listen to the entire phrase. Remember that rate-based pitch changes also affect playback duration.

FAQ

Questions about Speed & Pitch

01Does changing speed always change pitch?+

In this implementation, rate and pitch interact through resampling-style processing. Independent time-stretch without pitch change needs a heavier algorithm and may be refined later.

02Why does extreme slowing sound strange?+

Large time or pitch moves reveal artifacts. Prefer moderate settings for musical results.

03Can I use this for DJ-style key mixing?+

You can audition pitch offsets quickly. For beat-matched sets, combine with BPM Detector and careful editing.

04Is real-time scrubbing supported?+

Preview uses the processed buffer after apply. Live scrubbing of extreme settings depends on device performance.
